The free Multimedia API from MicrosoftDirectX is a free collection of APIs (application programming interface) for graphics and audio programming. This allows developers, especially game developers, to easily create games with all the features that can work on Windows. Most users do not even realize how DirectX works – it only runs when needed, without telling you. Although it can be installed on any computer, most users will not need it. It runs when you play a game made with DirectX and you are done. DirectX is a bunch of Windows interfaces. Developer programs for the DirectX API, with which their programs – usually games – can interact properly with sound cards and graphics. Other recent versions have added support for DirectX Raytracing, Depth Bounds Testing and Programmable MSAA.
