The free Microsoft DirectX multimedia API is a collection of free APIs (application programming interfaces) for graphics and sound programming. This makes it easy for developers, especially game developers, to create complete games that run on Windows. Most people won’t even realize that DirectX is running – it only runs when necessary, without letting you know. Otherwise, interacting with it is a bit more complicated and will require programming tools to control sound and graphics (function () {(‘review-app-page-desktop’);}); DirectX is a technical tool that helps game developers interact with sound cards and graphics. Although it can be installed on any computer, most users will never need it. This works when you play a game created with DirectX and you are done. You just need to know better if you want to program it yourself. This has one of the most efficient execution processes in this category. What is DirectX used for? DirectX is a set of Windows interfaces. The developer program in the DirectX API, which allows your program, often a game, to interact with sound cards and graphics correctly. In turn, sound and graphics card manufacturers recognize DirectX, so they know what to do when a program created with DirectX accesses its function. Already have DirectX? Because DirectX doesn’t have an interface like other applications (for example, it won’t appear in your application list), you need to be a little more technical to check if it’s already installed on your computer. To verify, follow these steps: Click Start, then click Run type dxdiag, then click OK On the System tab, note the version of DirectX that appears in the DirectX Version bar. On the various tabs, check the Version information for each DirectX file. After you have finished verifying the file version, click Quit DirectX Installation. If you find DirectX is not installed on your computer (or the version is very old), you need to download DirectX again to use it. The download is simple and, as expected, it downloads and executes normally .exe. The installation is slow, which can be a little frustrating and, be careful, the application tries to install Bing during the installation. How do I open the DirectX control panel? Because DirectX is not a normal application, you cannot open it the normal way. Instead press the Start button and type dxdiag in the box. Your computer will ask if you want to run DirectX. The window that opens is a very traditional Windows interface. All data is provided for information only: lots of details about your system, display settings, features and driver rendering, voice information and current input devices. It does not interact with this information: there is an error window, and if you program and make a mistake, an error will appear here. Go back and fix it, and the error will disappear. Who needs DirectX? There are two situations where you might need DirectX. If you play a game on your PC that requires DirectX to run. You might already have it. If you program items that need access to the sound card and graphics card, also you might need DirectX.
It should be noted that DirectX is not the only tool of this type. There are other APIs that interact with graphics cards, and many of them are moremodern. You can compare this with a valid application like Runtime. That said, if you play or develop certain games or on certain machines (maybe older) you might need a technology tool that you no longer need DirectXest. Solid technology that has been around for years and is still functioning. Graphics and sound technology works very well (so it’s still relevant even if it’s very old), and the interface is very useful, even if it’s very dated. However, most of us will never see it, unless you schedule it, you don’t even have to open it because it will only run in the background without you knowing it. DirectX is actually not the type of software you want or don’t want. If you need it, you have to install it and it is a painless experience. Recent changes The latest version of DirectX increases compatibility with Windows 10 and adds support for Variable Speed Shading (VRS). Other recent versions have added support for DirectX ray tracking, depth limit testing, and programmable MSAA.
